Minkah Fitzpatrick wants to play cornerback in the NFL and he's telling teams exactly that during pre-draft visits.
Fitzpatrick is a former five-star cornerback recruit who played both corner and safety — along with other hybrid positions — during an All-American career at Alabama. He's widely projected as a top-15 pick, and though it's not certain where his new team will play him on defense, he wants to play in the nickel as a man-to-man corner.
"Most teams ask you, 'What position do you feel most comfortable at? What position do you think you can most the most impact in coming in right away playing?' he said on The Hot Route podcast this week. "I always answer with cornerback because I feel like that's what I've done the last couple years. I only moved to safety because people got injured. It had nothing to do with ability or skill."
According to reports, Fitzpatrick has visited the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and says "most teams" agree with his position preference.
"Most teams agree with that. If they think that I'm a safety, they can put me in at corner and allow me to prove myself wrong I guess you could say. Most teams want me to start at corner."
