Oklahoma Football: Adrian Peterson, Sam Bradford Lead All-Bob Stoops Team

The news broke from Normal today that long-time Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops is retiring. The announcement certainly took many by surprise considering OU's opener against UTEP is less than three months away.

With so many great players having studied under the coach during his 18 seasons, let's take a look at the All-Time Bob Stoops team by position.

Offense

Quarterback: Sam Bradford

Bradford would end his career with 8,403 yards passing, 88 touchdowns, only 16 interceptions, and one gorgeous-looking trophy.

Running Back: Adrian Peterson

The future NFL star set the NCAA freshman rushing record in 2004 with 1,925 yards.

Running Back: DeMarco Murray

Murry is the OU career TD leader for a running back with 65, including 50 on the ground.

Wide Receiver: Ryan Broyles

Ending his career as the NCAA receptions career leader with 349, Broyles also added 4,586 yards and 45 touchdowns.

Wide Receiver: Mark Clayton

One of Stoops' early Air Raid receivers, Clayton haunted defenses between 2000 and 2004 with 3,241 receiving yards and 31 TDs.

[divider]

Tight End: Jermaine Gresham

The unstoppable force and former talented basketball player found himself in the end zone 26 times during his OU career.

[divider]

Tackle: Trent Williams

One of the best tackles at both the college and NFL levels, Williams was a unanimous All-American in 2009 and was taken fourth overall in 2010 by the Washington Redskins.

Tackle: Jammal Brown

Recruited as a defensive tackle, Brown switched to offense his sophomore year and ended up winning the Outland Trophy as college football's best lineman.

Guard: Davin Joseph

Joseph was so dominant at OU (he was named Freshman All-Big 12 by The Sporting News) that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took him 23rd overall in the 2006 NFL Draft.

Guard: Chris Chester

Joseph's linemate was no slouch either. After Chester switched over from tight end, he would end up going to the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the same draft.

Center: Jon Cooper

Cooper anchored the Sooner's line on his way to two All-Big 12 selections and the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year award in 2008.

Defense

Defensive Tackle: Gerald McCoy

McCoy earned consensus All-American honors with the Sooners and was drafted third overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010.

[divider]

Defensive Tackle: Tommie Harris

Harris started every game on defense as a true freshman and won the Lombardi Award for college football's best lineman in 2003.

[divider]

Defensive End: Jeremy Beal

Beal was voted All-Big 12 by the Associated Press in 2008 after nabbing a team-best 8.5 sacks in 2008.

[divider]

Defensive End: Dan Cody

Cody ended his OU career with 42 games played, 117 tackles, and 25 sacks before the Baltimore Ravens made him the 53rd pick in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft.

Linebacker: Rocky Calmus

Calmus nabbed a plethora of honors under Bob Stoops, including: Consensus All-American (2000, 2001), Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year (2000, 2001), and the Butkus Award in 2001 for college football's best linebacker.

Linebacker: Curtis Lofton

The 2007 Consensus All-American ended his career with 197 tackles, including 16 for a loss.

[divider]

Linebacker: Teddy Lehman

Another OU linebacker to take home the prestigious Dick Butkus Award, Lehman did so in 2003, which was the same year he also won the Chuck Bednarik Award given to the FBS' best defensive player.

[divider]

Cornerback: Derrick Strait

A unanimous All-American in 2003, Strait nabbed 14 interceptions during his time in Norman, including a career-high 6 in 2002.

[divider]

Cornerback: Andre Woolfork

Woolfork earned All-Big 12 honors in 2000 and 2001 and was taken in the first round by the Tennessee Titans.

[divider]

Safety: Roy Williams

Earning the nickname "Superman" at OU, Williams' list of accomplishments includes the 2001 Bronko Nagurski award for college football's best overall defensive player while also winning the Jim Thorpe Award that same season as the nation's best defensive back.

[divider]

Safety: JT Thatcher

Thatcher was a consensus All-American in 2000 and won the Mosi Tatupu Award that same year as the nation's best special teams player.

[divider]

Special Teams

Punter: Tress Way

Way would end his four-year career in Norman with an incredible punting average of 44.0 yards.

[divider]

Kicker: Michael Hunnicutt

Hunnicutt made 83.3 percent of his field goals en route to nearly 450 career points.

[divider]

Punt Returner/Kick Returner: Antonio Perkins

The 2003 unanimous All-American is probably best known for setting the NCAA mark for punt returns for a score in a single game when he did so against UCLA in 2003.
