Oklahoma is the best football program in the Big 12.
Undoubtedly, the Sooners and their five straight seasons of at least 11 wins sit atop the 10-team league. They had the third-most wins among all FBS teams last decade (and tied for the second most decade earlier) and tied Boise State for the most wins from 2000-19, averaging a staggering 10.95 wins per year over two full decades. No other full-time Big 12 program ranked in the top 25 in wins last decade and the Big 12’s other nine teams have zero combined playoff appearances to Oklahoma’s three.
Oklahoma is the class of the Big 12…in the big picture.
What about the small (present) picture? Right now, with Oklahoma riding their first losing streak in 21 years, are the Sooners the best team in the conference? If not, who is? If yes, who’s behind them and how big is the gap? And in the playoff picture, did Oklahoma officially eliminate themselves from contention with the loss at Iowa State in Week 5? Is Oklahoma State carrying the conference’s playoff hopes? And, where does Texas fit? Kansas State and others?
This week on the High Motor podcast, we discussed the current Big 12 power structure. Listen below (or on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, and everywhere else):
