The Huskers, who fired Shawn Eichorst in September after five years on the job, lured Moos away from Washington State, possibly thanks to a massive annual salary and incentive package. He will earn $1 million per year plus an additional $50,000 per year until 2023, when his annual salary will hit $1.25 million.
The contract is also laced with incentives, among them a $150,000 bonus for a football national championship, $100,000 for a Big Ten football title and $125,000 for academic achievements, including overall student-athlete academic progress rate (APR). As noted by Land of 10, Eichorst had no incentives in his contract and his retention bonus was just $750,000.
Moos' buyout is $2 million prior to the end of 2018. It decreased by $500,000 each after 2018.
Now that the contract is settled, the Mike Riley Watch officially begins.
