Bowling Green Football Prediction: Game-By-Game Predictions for the Falcons in 2020

Bowling Green didn't rely on a single Google to hire current head coach Scot Loeffler but the Falcons are still reeling from the time their athletics director did just that in hiring Mike Jinks.

"With Bowling Green fresh off a Mid-American Conference title powered by one of the country’s highest-flying offenses, then-AD Chris Kingston wanted to keep a good thing going. So he Googled which team had the best offense that year, noted it was Texas Tech, and essentially targeted the top Red Raiders assistant he could afford," the Toledo Blade reported in 2018.

As noted, Kingston is, thankfully, no longer at Bowling Green, and now the Falcons have a real head coach in Loeffler, a longtime Power Five assistant and Ohio native who spent considerable time in the midwest prior to his hiring. And Loeffler is entering year two of a massive rebuild that began with a respectable three-win 2019 all things considered.

Like most rebuilding programs reeling from a disastrous regime, the Falcons never found consistency on either side of the ball, ranking among the nation's worst in most areas, including points per play (129th), yards per play (125th), opponents' points per play (128th), and opponents' yards per play (129th). On average, Bowling Green gained a staggering 2.8 fewer yards PER PLAY than opponents last year.

Even with a mid-level FCS program and two of the nation's worst teams (Akron and Liberty) on the schedule, Bowling Green, ranked 124th in the HERO Sports Preseason College Football Rankings, will be hard-pressed to top last year's win total, though that's hardly relevant in Loeffler's rebuild.
