Boise State head coach Leon Rice said at Mountain West Media Days in October that a statue of four-year starter Tyson Degenhart should greet fans in front of ExtraMile Arena.
“If they don’t build one, I’m going to carve it or name a street after him,” Rice told reporters at media days, making it clear that he believes the Spokane, Washington, native is one of the greatest athletes to ever suit up at Boise State. “You know ‘Hey to get to the arena, you’ve got to go down Tyson Degenhart Way, then take a right on Kellen Moore Drive and swing into Ashton Jeanty Boulevard.’”
Degenhart, who led Boise State with 16.7 points a game last season, was named preseason conference player of the year in October. He ranks No. 3 in the Mountain West with 18 points a game this season, and he leads Boise State with six rebounds a night.
The 6-foot-8 senior has scored at least 10 points in all but one of the Broncos’ 20 games this season. His only single-digit performance was nine points in a home loss to San Diego State on Jan. 4.
Degenhart scored a season-high 27 points in Boise State’s loss at Colorado State last Wednesday. It was the eighth time this season that he has scored at least 20 points in a game, including 26 in a win at San Jose State on Dec. 28, 2024. Degenhart also has three double-doubles on his resume this season.
The three-time All-Mountain West selection will lead Boise State (13-7, 5-4 MWC) against visiting Nevada (11-9, 3-6 MWC) on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

Tyson Degenhart is chasing Boise State’s best
Tyson Degenhart passed former Boise State player Coby Karl for No. 5 on the Broncos’ all-time scorers list last Wednesday, and he now has 1,721 career points. He needs 191 points to pass Derrick Marks for No. 4 all-time and 224 points to surpass Tanoka Beard as Boise State’s all-time leading scorer.
Degenhart also ranks No. 3 in program history with 3,859 minutes played in his career and No. 5 with 612 career field goals.
He’s also No. 4 with 115 career starts and just seven games shy of breaking into the Broncos’ top 10 for most games played in a career. He has played in 121 since 2021. Former Boise State guard Max Rice set the record last season after playing in his 160th career game.
Will Tyson Degenhart win Mountain West Player of the Year?
Tyson Degenhart was named Preseason Mountain West Player of the Year at Media Days in October. He averages 18 points a game, which ranks No. 3 in the conference. He ranks No. 2 in the league with a .532 shooting percentage and No. 9 with six six rebounds a game.
Here’s a look at his top competition for Mountain West Player of the Year.
Donovan Dent, New Mexico – Dent leads the conference with 19.6 points a game and 139 assists. He has the Lobos in the thick of the regular-season title race and poised for a NCAA Tournament run.
Nique Clifford, Colorado State – Clifford ranks No. 4 in the Mountain West with 17.4 points a game and No. 2 in the conference with 9.6 rebounds a night. He also leads the Rams with 80 assists.
Ian Martinez, Utah State – Martinez ranks No. 5 in the Mountain West with 17 points a game. He’s also a big part of the reason the Aggies are off to one of their best starts to a season in program history and are the favorite to repeat as regular-season conference champions.
