The SIU Edwardsville men’s basketball team is heading to the 2025 NCAA Tournament after winning the Ohio Valley Conference. In the OVC tournament, it defeated Tennessee State 71-69 and SEMO 69-48 in the championship game to clinch the auto-bid.
The Cougars are 22-11 overall this season and on a 3-game winning streak.

Brian Barone has a base salary of around $204,000 as the SIU Edwardsville head coach.
He’s been at SIUE since 2017, where he was an assistant coach for two years before being elevated to head coach in 2019. Before SIUE, Barone was the head coach at Butler Community College. He has had assistant coaching stints at Green Bay, Illinois State, Garden City Community College, and Central Florida Community College.
As a player, Barone played his first two seasons at Texas A&M for his father Tony Barone Sr., earning honorable mention all-Big 12 honors as a sophomore in 1997-98. He later transferred to Marquette.
