The Yale men’s basketball team is heading to the 2025 NCAA Tournament after winning the Ivy League. In the Ivy League tournament, it defeated Princeton 59-57 and Cornell 90-84 in the championship game to clinch the auto-bid.
The Bulldogs are 22-7 overall this season and on a 3-game winning streak.

In 2025, Yale basketball will make its eighth appearance in the Division 1 NCAA Tournament.
The Bulldogs also reached the tourney in 1949, 1957, 1962, 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2024.

Yale has won two games in the Division 1 NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs defeated Baylor in 2016 and Auburn in 2024.

Yale Basketball Coach James Jones
James Jones is in his 26th season as Yale’s head coach.
He is the all-time winningest men’s basketball coach at Yale with 418 wins. Jones is the longest tenured coach in the league and has led the Bulldogs to four Ivy League Tournament titles in 2019, 2022, 2024, and 2025.
Jones was the 2019 recipient of the Ben Jobe Award as the top minority coach in Division I men’s basketball. He has led Yale since 1999 as his first and only head coaching job at the college level. He was an assistant coach at Yale from 1995 to 97. Jones then spent two years as an assistant at Ohio University before being named Yale’s head coach.
