One week ago, Ohio State was ranked No. 4 in the Week 12 College Football Playoff Rankings and had a clear path to their fourth playoff appearance. Now, the Buckeyes are battling a COVID-19 crisis and facing a potential four- or five-game season.
Even with a cancellation against Maryland, Ohio State was still scheduled to play seven regular-season games and in position to run away with the Big Ten East. After last weekend’s cancellation of their trip to Illinois, they’re one more cancellation away from Big Ten Championship ineligibility. With Ohio State’s season suddenly in jeopardy, we need to reset the playoff table and discuss the potential ramifications across the Power Five and Group of Five.
