The NFL has been in the news the past couple of months for finally having female assistant coaches and referees. One college has a female assistant coach, and she’s unique in more ways than one.
Sister Lisa Maurer, of the Benedictine order at the College of BR-171 St. Scholastica in Duluth, is the assistant football coach for punters and kickers.
“We strive to be a team that all the sisters in the abbey can be proud of,” head coach Kurt Ramler told the News Tribune last year. “This is one of the best teams I’ve ever been a part of. … and Sister Lisa has kind of been the glue that keeps us all together.”
“It’s not just about football. It’s about teamwork,” Sister Lisa told CBS News. “It’s about doing the best. It’s about having pride in who we are, looking out for one another.”
