Leaving Las Vegas
I loved the Tony Sanchez hire. UNLV, a program with eight two-win seasons in the last 10 years at the time of Sanchez's arrival in late 2014, needed to go outside the box. And after Sanchez increased their win total in each of his first three years, I included him on a few potential watch lists for Power Five jobs, often wondering if a program like Kansas or Texas Tech might call.
Instead, Sanchez is out after 19 wins over five seasons (with a chance at his 20th in the regular-season finale vs. Nevada), and UNLV is searching for another head coach. The first name to pop into my head: Todd Graham.
"I just wanna coach," Graham said on the High Motor podcast in June, also adding his preference for a job in the south or southwest. Las Vegas is in the southwest and could be a perfect fit.
Other names being tossed around: Rich Rodriquez, Butch Jones, Jeff Choate, Troy Taylor, Danny Gonzales, Beau Baldwin, Rob Likens, and Dan Hawkins, among several others.

Davie Done
Hours after UNLV fired Tony Sanchez, another Mountain West job opened when New Mexico announced Bob Davie was out.
"After meeting with Coach Davie this morning, we both agree that the time has come for a new direction for our football program," athletics director Eddie Nuñez said. "I'm appreciative of the work that coach Davie has done at UNM." Like Sanchez, Davie will coach their final game.
"One of the potential candidates in the mix for UNLV, #ASU DC Danny Gonzales is expected to be a front runner for the #NewMexico head coaching job," Bruce Feldman tweeted on Monday night. Gonzales played for the Lobos and spent the first 10 years of his coaching career with the program.

Out of Nowhere
Troy Smith ran away with the 2006 Heisman Trophy, nearly tripling the point total of the second-place finisher, Darren McFadden. It was (and remains) the second-largest margin of victory in the award's 85-year history. It was also the start of a bizarre trend for Heisman winners who didn't finish in the top 10 the previous year.
