Another FCS standout has been taken in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Alabama State offensive tackle Tytus Howard went 23rd overall to the Houston Texans. The 6-foot-5, 322-pounder is the first 1st rounder from the FCS since North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz was selected No. 2 by Philadelphia.
FCS First Round Picks Since 1978
Howard's combination of size and athleticism helped him rise rapidly on draft boards since his senior season ended. He played quarterback in high school and arrived at ASU as a tight end. Howard was moved to the offensive line in his second season and didn't leave the starting lineup since.
As a senior, Howard earned HERO Sports First Team All-American honors.
