After going undefeated in the regular season, winning the Conference USA title, and appearing in the Fiesta Bowl in 2023, Liberty seemed like it would be in control of CUSA for years to come. But the Flames haven’t lived up to expectations the past two seasons.
Still, they have high offseason expectations again.

CUSA Championship Prediction & Analysis
I predict Western Kentucky will win Conference USA in 2026.
The Hilltoppers have continuously been in the mix to win CUSA the past few years but haven’t quite gotten there. I think Tyson Helton is a good head coach and that he is bound to get WKU to a league title at some point.
Also, I don’t trust Liberty after the past few seasons the Flames have had. I don’t think Jamey Chadwell is a bad coach, but it’s just tough for me to pick them until they get back on track.
A couple other teams to watch: Kennesaw State and Delaware. People are starting to doubt Kennesaw State, despite the Owls winning CUSA in 2025, after the offseason they had. But I think head coach Jerry Mack will keep KSU competitive at the very least. The Blue Hens, with head coach Ryan Carty and quarterback Nick Minicucci back, are going to be really interesting. They earned bowl-eligibility immediately after their transition to the FBS, and I could see them being even better in 2026.
