Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell announced Monday the Rams would be starting Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi at quarterback this weekend against Colorado.
The Rams are 0-1 after losing to Washington State and are aiming to win at least one game before Mountain West play. They hope that victory is in their next matchup against their in-state opponent.

“We made a decision that we’re going to give Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi an opportunity to play for us,” Norvell said during a press conference. “He’s going to start for us. Clay Millen’s a tremendous player for us. He’s going to be an important player for us the rest of the season. But we just felt it was an opportunity for Brayden to play.
“The bottom line is we have to score touchdowns, and we have to score points offensively. When you play against good football teams, you have to sustain drives and you have to make plays.”
CSU Football’s Starting Quarterback For The Colorado vs. Colorado State Game
Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi is making his second career start for Colorado State against Colorado.
Fowler-Nicolosi led the Rams to a 17-14 win over Nevada last year. He threw for 78 yards and two interceptions while completing 11 of 22 passes as the starter.
For the entire 2022 season, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound redshirt freshman completed 17 of 37 throws for 194 yards, one touchdown, and two picks. He also ran for six yards. Against WSU, he completed 13 of 20 attempts for 210 yards, two touchdowns, and one pick.
Who Used To Be Colorado State’s Starting Quarterback?
Fowler-Nicolosi is starting in place of Clay Millen. The 6-3, 210-pound redshirt sophomore and former Nevada transfer was CSU’s primary starter last year.
Millen threw for 1,910 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing 72% of his passes last season. In CSU’s first game of 2023, he completed 15 of 24 throws with no touchdowns and one pick.
