Texas made the College Football Playoff a year ago, and now the Longhorns are in the SEC for the 2024 season. There’s plenty of excitement around the program.
Many are expecting Texas to begin the year with a lopsided victory in Week 1. The Longhorns host Colorado State out of the Mountain West to start the year.
But the Rams could be one of the better teams in the Group of Five this season, as they ranked 20th in the HERO Sports Preseason Top 25 poll. Maybe things won’t be that easy for Texas right away.

Colorado State vs. Texas Prediction
I predict Texas will win but Colorado State will cover the spread at +32.5. I also project the game will go Over 60.5 total points.
I’m fully aware how great this Texas team, led by quarterback Quinn Ewers, could be this year. But I think plenty of people are underestimating Colorado State this season.
On offense, the Rams are capable of putting up plenty of points with Tory Horton at wide receiver. CSU’s defense should also be plenty strong with safety Jack Howell as one of its leaders.
Is CSU going to beat Texas? I don’t think so. But I could see the Rams being pesky and not letting this game get away from them until the second half.
