Shavon Revel Jr. was ready to prove himself as a first-round prospect going into the 2024 season. That’s where some NFL Draft experts believed the East Carolina cornerback could end up going.
But after appearing in just three games – and playing exceptionally – Revel’s season was cut short due to a knee injury.
Revel said at the NFL Combine that he was on track to begin participating in team activities by this summer. But could a Group of Five prospect who didn’t play most of last season still end up going in the first round?
Many see that kind of potential in him.
“Man, you’re going to get a hard-working, downhill, hard-nosed cornerback,” Revel said about whichever team drafts him. “Like 110% effort every single day.”

Shavon Revel NFL Draft Projection
I project Shavon Revel Jr. will be drafted by the Green Bay Packers with the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Cornerback is one of the Packers’ top positional needs, and I think Revel will end up being selected somewhere in this range. Revel clearly has the potential to be a starter at the next level, and I believe he could play in any defense, so he would be a great option for the Packers here.
“I always believed in myself,” Revel said. “I always trusted in my abilities that I had and that I carried also throughout my life. … I don’t care if you’re short or tall. If you’re a dog, you’re a dog.”
What Was Shavon Revel’s 40 Time At The NFL Combine?
Shavon Revel didn’t run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. However, he ran the 40 in 4.40 seconds during a camp before going to East Carolina.
Shavon Revel’s Height & Weight
Shavon Revel was measured at 6-foot-2, 194 pounds at the NFL Combine.
Shavon Revel’s Stats & Highlights
Revel only played in 12 games during one of three seasons at East Carolina. But during that time, he showcased a great deal of potential.
He began his collegiate career at Louisburg College and was there for two years before going to East Carolina. In 2022, his first season at ECU, he totaled eight tackles in nine games.
Revel’s best season was in 2023. He tallied 55 tackles, 3.5 for loss, with 12 passes defended, one interception, one sack, one fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks. That helped him earn a spot on the All-AAC second team.
Revel began being viewed as a first-round prospect after that year. He played in three games in 2024, recording eight tackles and four passes defended with two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, before his season ended due to injury.
“Our defense overall, man, it was just crazy,” Revel said of ECU’s coaching. “I loved how we practiced. It was exciting. It was just hype every single day. And all (the coaches) wanted was 110% effort.”
Where Is Shavon Revel From?
Shavon Revel is from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He played at Reynolds High School for three years before transferring to Reagan High School, where he was a three-star prospect.
Shavon Revel’s NFL Comparison & 2025 NFL Draft Profile
Shavon Revel said he looks up to Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander. I can see why Revel studies his tape after I watched him play at East Carolina – and I’m not just saying that because I think Revel will go to the Packers.
Revel plays with a high level of confidence and aggressiveness. He’s fluid when he’s dropping back, but he’s also a physical tackler in run support.
He has a feel for how plays are going to unfold. And in 50-50 situations when the ball is in the air and he’s competing with a wide receiver to make a play, he usually ends up deflecting or intercepting that pass.
He can also play on special teams, as he blocked multiple field goal attempts in college.
“It’s just repetition and practice. I guarded the best receivers,” Revel said. “My coaches never let me guard no slouch. It had to be the best receiver on the team. So, just repetition with the best receivers on the team and just keep doing it every day and learning from it.”
In 2024, though he played just three games, Revel was 26th in Pro Football Focus’ overall grades and coverage grades for cornerbacks. He allowed eight catches for 195 yards and one touchdown with two picks on 21 targets.
In 2023, Revel was 24th in PFF’s tackling grades among cornerbacks who played at least 480 snaps. He was in the top 10 with a missed tackle rate of just 5%. Revel was in the top 30 in the country with 19 defensive stops which were constituted as failures for the offense.
He was also 30th for coverage and tied for 41st for overall defense. Revel allowed 19 catches for 250 yards with one touchdown and one pick on 42 targets. His reception rate of 45.2% tied for 23rd in the FBS. He also allowed just 55 yards after catch, which was in the top 20.
Revel said he studies film closely to learn opposing wide receivers’ strategies when they begin plays at the line of scrimmage. Whether they like to stutter-step, take a faster approach, or push up on defenders, Revel was often ready. He also switches up his techniques so wideouts don’t get too comfortable.
Revel noted how playing press man, especially with his frame, is vital to his game.
“It’s very important,” Revel said. “Especially to me because I played press man my whole life. I still need some work on it. So just developing every day and just taking the little details, taking it into the next day and getting better and better. It really meant a lot to me. Coming back to college, they taught me a lot. JUCO from DI taught me a lot of things that I had to fix and also taught me how to use my length and my speed.”
If Revel continues to improve as an outside corner, especially in press coverage, he should become a standout NFL player in the near future.
