Even after firing head coach Mike Houston, East Carolina could earn bowl-eligibility as early as tonight.
With defensive coordinator Blake Harrell as ECU’s interim head coach, the Pirates have won their last two games against Temple and FAU. They are 5-4 overall and 3-2 in AAC play.
Now ECU will seek to earn a sixth win against Tulsa, which is 3-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
The Pirates will have to face North Texas and Navy, two of the better teams in the AAC, to end the regular season. So if they want to secure that bowl bid, now would be a good time to do so.

East Carolina vs. Tulsa Prediction
I predict East Carolina will win and cover the spread at -14.5. I also project the game will go Under 63 total points.
I think this ECU team is much better than people give it credit for. I believed that even before Mike Houston was fired. Aside from maybe their 55-24 loss at Charlotte, the Pirates have either been pretty competitive or have faced really good teams throughout the season.
And I think ECU’s past two games, a 56-34 victory over Temple and a 49-14 triumph over FAU, have proven that belief to be true.
The Pirates are 1-3 on the road this season, which does give me reason for concern. But I think they’ve found some momentum and are poised to win by at least 20 points again against a Tulsa team which has lost four of its last five contests.
