The 2024 season hasn’t gone how FAU or East Carolina hoped.
In Tom Herman’s second season as the head coach of FAU, the Owls were aiming to see some progress after going 4-8 in 2023. But there’s a chance they end up with an even worse record this season, as they are 2-6 overall and 0-4 against AAC teams.
ECU, meanwhile, did win a few games early on but couldn’t sustain that success, leading to the firing of head coach Mike Houston. However, the Pirates are 4-4 overall and 2-2 in AAC play, so while they are out of conference championship contention, they still could make a bowl game by the end of the year.
Now these two teams will face off in hopes of showing some promise.

I predict East Carolina will win and cover the spread at -7.5. I also project the game will go Under 58.5 total points.
I don’t expect this to be a pretty game. As illustrated by their records, neither team is playing all that effectively or consistently.
However, after FAU lost 16-10 at Michigan State to start the year, the Owls have only beaten one FBS team, and only one of their losses since then have been decided by less than 14 points. I don’t think there’s much reason to believe this team will go on the road and win decisively.
After defeating Temple 56-34 in their most recent contest, there is reason to believe the Pirates are still motivated despite how their season has turned out. And with games against North Texas and Navy still coming up later this month, I think the Pirates will badly want to win this game if they still want to earn bowl-eligibility.
