UConn won nine games this season, the first time the program has reached nine victories in back-to-back seasons in the FBS.
But it was so close to being exponentially better.
In their fourth year with Jim Mora as their head coach, the Huskies went 9-3 with their only losses being in overtime. They fell to Syracuse, Delaware, and Rice all after being tied at the end of regulation.
Still, it’s remarkable what the Huskies have achieved. They finished the season eighth in HERO Sports’ Group of Five Top 25 rankings, and six UConn players were G5 All-Americans.

But Mora has taken the head coaching job at Colorado State, and Jason Candle will be UConn’s head coach in 2026 after a successful tenure at Toledo. The Huskies are nonetheless aiming to maintain their winning ways with another Fenway Bowl victory, which would give them 10 wins for the first time in the FBS.
But they’ve got to take on Army in order to earn double-digit wins. And the Black Knights (6-6) have been playing well during the second half of the season.
Army lost to FCS Tarleton State to kick the season off but then bounced back with a surprise victory over Kansas State. Army then lost its first two American Conference games to North Texas and East Carolina.
But Army has only lost three games since then – against Tulane, Tulsa, and Navy by a collective nine points. The Black Knights defeated UAB, Charlotte, Air Force, Temple, and UTSA since the beginning of October.

UConn vs. Army Prediction
I predict Army will win but UConn will cover the 8.5-point spread. I also project the game will go Under 42.5 total points.
UConn wide receiver Skyler Bell, a G5 All-American, is expected to play but Huskies quarterback Joe Fagnano and others will not play in this matchup. And without head coach Jim Mora, I think UConn’s absences will be impactful.
I also don’t see this being a good matchup for the Huskies. Army is fifth in the country in rushing with 245.5 yards per game on the ground, and UConn is 114th in rushing defense with 185.5 yards per game allowed.
Army is also top 50 in the nation in total defense (349.9 YPG allowed) and scoring defense (22.08 points per game allowed). So I think the Black Knights will be in control of this game on both sides of the ball, even if I do believe UConn can keep it to within one possession.
