Former Florida International running back Kejon Owens ended his college career with a historic season.
Owens set FIU’s single-season record with 1,334 rushing yards, which ranked No. 11 in the country last fall. He also scored 11 rushing touchdowns, which ranks No. 3 in program history.
Owens was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year after he led the league with 6.3 yards a carry and ranked in the top three in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
He was one of the most productive and explosive running backs in the country last season. It was his only season as the Panthers’ featured back, but he may have made enough highlight reel plays to become a late-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Kejon Owens NFL Draft Projection
I project Owens will be selected in the seventh round of the NFL Draft.
The Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Seattle Seahawks would all be a good fit. The Eagles have been open about wanting to add an explosive back late in the draft, and Owens met with Philadelphia at the Senior Bowl.
Kejon Owens’ 40 Time & Pro Day Results
Owens ran the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds at the Panthers’ Pro Day on March 23. His 10-yard split was 1.57 seconds. He posted a 30.5-inch vertical leap and a 9 foot, 8 inch broad jump and ran the 20-yard shuttle in 4.64 seconds. He also posted 15 reps on the bench press.
Owens checked in at 5-foot-10 and 203 pounds.
Kejon Owens’ Stats & Highlights
Owens is an outlier in the era of the transfer portal. He spent all five seasons of his college career at FIU and left the program with 2,262 yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground.
Owens bided his time at FIU. He registered just 26 carries in his first two seasons before holding down a situational role in the Panthers’ backfield the following two years.
He truly carried the load last fall. He went from 92 carries in 2024 to 213 last season. Owens also posted career highs in rushing yards (1,334) and touchdowns (11) and went from averaging 35.6 rushing yards a game in 2024 to 102.6 last season.
Owens took part in the Senior Bowl and the American Bowl after the season. He scored a rushing touchdown for the National Team in the annual Senior Bowl game.
Where Is Kejon Owens From?
Owens is from Miami, Florida, and he helped Miami Central High win a state championship in 2019. He was ranked a three-star prospect and the No. 66 running back in the country by 247Sports in 2019 and signed with FIU despite reporting offers from Louisville, Kentucky, Pitt, and Syracuse.
Kejon Owens Draft Profile & Comparison
My NFL comparison for Kejon Owens is Los Angeles Chargers running back Kimani Vidal. Both are compact, explosive runners who have the ability to break off chunk plays but are best suited in a running-back-by-committee situation.
Owens proved last season that physically he can handle a large number of carries, and there’s no arguing how explosive he is. He racked up more than 100 rushing yards five times last fall, including a season-high 195 against Western Kentucky. He also broke off a season-long 84-yard carry against the Hilltoppers.
Owens doesn’t have elite top-end speed, and he was never asked to play much of a role in the passing game at FIU. But he’s explosive enough to earn a spot on an NFL roster – whether as a draft pick or an undrafted free agent.
