Kellen Moore is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the history of FBS college football.
The Boise State legend has the most wins for any starting collegiate QB. He led the Broncos to some memorable victories in bowl games.
He never had the chance to compete for a national championship, though. His alma mater, however, will have that opportunity this season.
Boise State earned a bye in the first year that the College Football Playoff used a 12-team format. The Broncos, the third-highest ranked conference champion in the country, will play in the Fiesta Bowl – a bowl that Moore has history with – on ESPN on Dec. 31 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The winner of Penn State’s matchup with SMU will see Boise State in the CFP quarterfinals.
With the Broncos preparing to play in a game that will represent a landmark moment in the program’s history, here’s a look back on the historic career of Moore, one of the program’s most decorated players.

Moore is the winningest quarterback in college football history with 50 wins from 2008-11. He went 50-3 in four years as a starter at Boise State.
Kellen Moore’s Boise State Career Highlights
Moore was successful immediately as a freshman. He threw for 3,486 yards and 25 touchdowns with 10 interceptions on a 69% completion rate in 2008 while competing in the WAC. That season ended with a loss against TCU in the Poinsettia Bowl, so Boise State ended up with a 12-1 overall record.
Moore kept improving as the years went on. He totaled 3,536 yards, 39 touchdowns, and just three interceptions through the air while completing 64% of his throws in 2009.
That season, he led the No. 6-ranked Broncos over Andy Dalton and No. 3 TCU in a 17-10 triumph in the Fiesta Bowl. That capped a perfect 14-0 season for Boise State.
As a junior, Moore completed 71% of his passes for 3,845 yards, 35 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Boise State went 12-1 that year, with its only loss being against Nevada. The Broncos defeated Utah in the Maaco Bowl that year.
In 2011, Moore’s last year in college and Boise State’s first year in the Mountain West, the quarterback threw for a career-best 3,800 yards and 43 touchdowns on a 74% completion percentage with nine interceptions. The Broncos, who went 12-1, won the Maaco Bowl again, this time against Arizona State.
Moore was the last Heisman Trophy finalist to play for Boise State until running back Ashton Jeanty was runner-up for the award this season. Moore was fourth in the voting for the award in 2010 while being seventh in 2009 and eighth in 2011.
Moore was also the WAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010 and was the OPOY in the Mountain West as a senior.

Moore is Boise State’s all-time passing leader with 14,667 yards. He ended his career fifth in college football record books and currently is 10th in FBS history in passing yards.
He’s behind Case Keenum of Houston (19,217), Dillon Gabriel of Oregon (18,423), Timmy Chang of Hawaii (17,072), Landry Jones of Oklahoma (16,646), Graham Harrell of Texas Tech (15,793), Sam Hartman of Notre Dame (15,656), Bo Nix of Oregon (15,351), Ty Detmer of BYU (15,031), and Will Rogers of Washington (14,773).

Kellen Moore’s Touchdown Record At Boise State
Moore is first at Boise State and third all-time in the FBS with 142 passing touchdowns.
Dillon Gabriel of Oregon, which Boise State played in 2024, is second all-time with 153 TD throws. He’s behind only Houston’s Case Keenum, who threw for 155.

Moore is first in Boise State’s history and is also fourth all-time with a 69.8% completion rate.
In the college football record books, he’s behind only Shedeur Sanders of Colorado (71.8%), Colt Brennan of Hawaii (70.4%), and Colt McCoy of Texas (70.3%).
Moore’s also tied with McCoy for 13th with 1,157 career completions while being 26th with 1,658 passing attempts.
Where Is Boise State QB Kellen Moore Now?
Moore is the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, who are one of the top teams in the NFL this season.
Before this, he was the OC for the Los Angeles Chargers. From 2018-22, he coached for the Dallas Cowboys. He was a quarterbacks coach for one year before becoming the team’s OC from 2019-22.
Moore played in the NFL for six seasons after college. He first went to the Detroit Lions as a rookie free agent and was there from 2012-14. He then played for the Cowboys from 2014-17 before beginning his coaching career.
