Navy was a frontrunner to appear in the AAC Championship game and unquestionably played like it.
The Midshipmen began the season with a six-game winning streak. That included a thrilling victory over Memphis – a preseason favorite to win the conference – and Air Force.
Then the Midshipmen played against Notre Dame, which was considered one of their true tests to see whether they were worthy of College Football Playoff consideration.
But Navy lost that game 51-14, and then the team lost again, this time at Rice. That was part of a stretch where Navy dropped three of four games, with its other loss being 35-0 against Tulane.
That prevented Navy from making it to the CFP – and the AAC title game for that matter.
But the Midshipmen responded nonetheless. They decisively defeated AAC Champion Army 31-13, which meant Navy won the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy for the first time since 2019 and finished the 2024 regular season 9-3 overall.
Now the Midshipmen will get one more chance this year to show what they can do against a Power Four squad. Navy will face off with Oklahoma in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl.

Oklahoma vs. Navy Prediction
I project Navy will win and cover the +2.5 spread. I also project the game will go Under 43.5 total points.
Aside from a couple uncharacteristic losses, the Midshipmen played like one of the best teams in the country this season. It doesn’t matter if they played in the AAC or how they run the program – Navy was good this year.
And while making predictions for many teams during bowl season is so difficult because I have to account for transfer portal losses, opt-outs, and coaching changes, Navy doesn’t really have to worry about that as much compared to seemingly every other college football program.
Now, Navy was exceptional on offense this year because of its rushing attack. The Midshipmen ranked in the top 40 in the country in scoring offense (32.2 points per game) while being sixth in the FBS with 249.3 rushing yards per game.
The problem for Navy is Oklahoma was excellent against the run on defense. The Sooners allowed the 10th-fewest rushing yards per game in the nation with 105.8 per game given up. That could cause some issues.
But I think Navy quarterback Blake Horvath, who just rushed for 204 yards and two touchdowns while also passing for 107 yards and two touchdowns in the Army-Navy game, will be more than capable of leading the Midshipmen to a victory here. I expect Navy will control the line of scrimmage, put long drives together, and manage to upset Oklahoma in a close contest.
