Memphis may no longer be in the running for a College Football Playoff spot, but the Tigers will have a shot of appearing in the AAC Championship.
That should provide plenty of motivation going into tonight’s game against Rice. Memphis, in theory, should be plenty capable of winning at home against Rice, which fired head coach Mike Bloomgren earlier in the season.
But Memphis also should’ve won against UTSA, a team with a losing record, last week. Instead, the Roadrunners managed to win 44-36, so Memphis will need to find a way to respond.

Rice vs. Memphis Prediction
I predict Memphis will win and cover the spread at -7. I also project the game will go Over 50.5 total points.
The Tigers’ defense hasn’t been spectacular this season. They allowed 44 points against UTSA in their most recent game and gave up 28 points to Charlotte and 44 points to North Texas in matchups before that.
So even if Rice has scored more than 20 points against FBS teams just twice this season, I think the Owls will manage to score a few times in this matchup, especially after they upset Navy a week ago.
But I still think this Memphis team is more than a touchdown better than Rice, especially at home. The Tigers have averaged 40.3 points per game during their last three outings.
I expect quarterback Seth Henigan will have another solid performance and that Memphis will end up winning by double digits.
