The transfer portal can be problematic for even the best Group of Five schools. When some of their best players thrive, that usually leads to Power Four teams expressing interest and those stars transferring.

This offseason, there’s been plenty of transfers, including some star quarterbacks. Here’s a look at standout college football players who have decided to either transfer to G5 schools or to leave Group of Five programs within the past couple weeks, according to On3 and 247Sports.

Transfer Portal QB News

Joey Aguilar Transfers To Tennessee

Former App State quarterback and Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year Joey Aguilar decided to go to Tennessee.

Aguilar had initially gone to UCLA this offseason. But after Nico Iamaleava went from Tennessee to UCLA, Aguilar essentially swapped places with him.

Aguilar owns App State’s single-season records for passing yards (3,757), touchdown throws (33), completions (293), and total offensive yards (4,002). He’s also fifth in school records books for career touchdown passes (56) and yards through the air (6,760).

Tulane QB TJ Finley Enters The Portal

Without having played a game at Tulane, Green Wave QB TJ Finley entered the transfer portal.

He’s bounced around several FBS schools.

Finley was reportedly arrested and was suspended from the program this offseason.

In 2024, Finley played at Western Kentucky and appeared in three games before being sidelined in the wake of an injury. In 2023 while at Texas State, Finley threw for 3,439 yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions on 279-of-414 passing to go with 81 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Finley also played at LSU and Auburn.
