Caleb Ransaw may not have received much draft consideration at this point a year ago. But much has changed.
After a productive time at Troy, the defensive back transferred to Tulane before the 2024 season and was stellar. Then he received an invite to the Senior Bowl and shined against the best players in the FBS, intercepting a pass late in the first half of the all-star game.
And Ransaw’s draft stock continued to skyrocket after a blistering time in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. That all could be enough for him to earn serious consideration in the first few rounds of this year’s draft.

Caleb Ransaw’s NFL Comparison & 2025 NFL Draft Profile
Some aspects of Caleb Ransaw’s game and career remind me of Taron Johnson of the Buffalo Bills. I’m not convinced that Ransaw will become a player of that caliber. But Johnson was from a smaller school having gone to Weber State and was drafted in the fourth round but showcased positional versatility and went on to become a starting-caliber nickel.
The big question revolving around Ransaw going into the draft will be which position will he be best suited for. Ransaw is capable of playing at cornerback or safety, which he did at the Senior Bowl, but I believe he would be best at nickel.
Among players who saw at least 200 coverage snaps in the slot in 2024, Ransaw led the country with 25.4 coverage snaps per reception allowed. And the NFL passer rating on throws his way while he was in the slot was 79.1, which was the ninth-lowest in the FBS.
Regardless of where he lined up, Ransaw allowed just 10 catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns on 23 targets in 2024. For his college career, he gave up 51 catches for 545 yards and four touchdowns on 86 targets.
Ransaw’s speed obviously stands out. But he’s also tough and physical, especially when he’s going for a tackle. He also has the capability of covering a lot of pass catchers – wide receivers or tight ends.
Ransaw will need to find the position that’s best for him. But if he does, there’s little reason to doubt that he has NFL potential.
