2020 FCS Jersey Countdown: 2 — The Best Player Who Wears No. 2 Is Alcorn State’s Felix Harper

Alcorn State Athletics

Welcome to the 2020 FCS Jersey Countdown.

Throughout the May-September months, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-1. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2019 season.

The full countdown can be found here.

*Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2019 rosters.

2: Felix Harper, QB (Sr.) — Alcorn State

In the third game of the 2019 season, Alcorn State QB Noah Johnson went down with an injury. Losing the 2018 SWAC Offensive Player of the Year could have been a brutal blow for Braves.

But in stepped Harper, who went on to win the 2019 SWAC Offensive Player of the Year award as Alcorn State finished 9-4 with a trip to the Celebration Bowl.

Harper threw for 2,954 yards, 33 touchdowns and nine interceptions while adding six rushing touchdowns. The 33 TD passes were No. 4 in the FCS and he ranked No. 5 in points responsible for with 19.7 points per game. Harper was also seventh in passing efficiency (160.7), eighth in yards per completion (14.5) and ninth in yards per pass attempt (8.7).

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Georgia native was a 2-star recruit out of high school. He waited patiently as the No. 2 QB until his name was called. And Harper delivered. In the 64-44 loss to North Carolina A&T in the Celebration Bowl, Harper threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns along with rushing for two TDs.

Expect another electric season when Alcorn State hits the field this spring.
