Welcome to the 2020 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Throughout the May-September months, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-1. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2019 season.
The full countdown can be found here.
*Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2019 rosters.
8: Samori Toure, WR (Sr.) — Montana
Samuel Akem was the wide receiver name everyone knew about for the Griz heading into the 2019 season. While Akem had a solid year, he was hampered by a late-season injury. Toure stepped up his game in a big way and is also now a household name in the FCS.
Both wide receivers are back this season, by the way.
Toure hauled in 87 catches for 1,495 yards and 13 touchdowns. His yards were a school record, led the Big Sky and ranked No. 2 in the FCS. Toure’s play down the final stretch of the season was huge. He broke Randy Moss’ 1996 FCS playoff record for receiving yards in a game with 303 against Southeastern Louisiana.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder earned First Team All-Big Sky and First Team HERO Sports All-American honors. Toure enters this year as a preseason First Team All-American.
The top wide receiver in the FCS, Pro Football Network has Toure an underrated gem in the 2021 NFL Draft.
