Welcome to the 2022 FCS Jersey Countdown. Leading up to the start of weekly college football odds and Week 0 games on Aug. 27, HERO Sports will name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on last season’s rosters.

Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2021 rosters.
64: Jon Mucciolo, OL (Sr.) — Sacred Heart
Mucciolo has been a big contributor on the offensive line dating back to 2019. Sacred Heart’s rushing attack is among the best in the FCS, highlighted by a physical offensive line and star-power at the running back position. It rushed for 211.3 yards per game last fall, ranking 11th in the FCS.
Julius Chestnut was an All-American running back in 2019 and the 2021 spring. When Chestnut was sidelined with an injury early last season, it created concern about Sacred Heart’s ability to return to the playoffs. But stepping up was Malik Grant, who put together his own All-American season with 1,347 rushing yards.
The Pioneers went 6-1 to win the NEC and make the postseason. They finished 8-4 overall, losing 13-10 at Holy Cross in the first round.
Sacred Heart doesn’t get there without a great offensive line paving the way for Grant. Mucciolo was terrific on the interior of the o-line. The 6-foot-4, 300-pounder was graded by PFF as the No. 6 FCS guard (75.7).
Mucciolo returns in 2022 and looks to garner more respect with All-Conference accolades. After all, it does start up front for the top NEC team’s offense and Grant, who we ranked as the No. 5 returning FCS running back.
