Eight FCS players have been invited to the 2021 Senior Bowl — Grambling State OL David Moore, Northern Iowa OL Spencer Brown, UNI DL Elerson Smith, North Dakota State OL Dillon Radunz, Illinois State safety Christian Uphoff, South Dakota State WR Cade Johnson, Central Arkansas CB Robert Rochell and North Carolina Central CB Bryan Mills.
It is already a higher number than last year’s four participants — Southern Illinois safety Jeremy Chinn, Portland State TE Charlie Taumoepeau, South Carolina State OL Alex Taylor and Dayton TE Adam Trautman. There were six FCS players in the 2019 Senior Bowl.
The 2021 Senior Bowl will be held at 1:30 p.m. CT on Jan. 30 in Mobile, Alabama. It is the premier all-star game for NFL Draft prospects.
With the FCS season moving to the spring (Central Arkansas is playing a full season this fall), seven of these eight players don’t plan on playing and instead, begin training for the draft. The lone exception right now is Uphoff.
Before the invite, Uphoff told his teammates he wants to play in the spring. Now, Illinois State is asking the NCAA for a waiver that would allow him to play in the Senior Bowl and in the spring season.
