There's a lot to love for FIU football in 2020: Another year of scheme consistency, Kaylan Wiggins' potential at quarterback, the return of receiver Bryce Singleton from injury, addition of Georgia transfer receiver J.J. Holloman, and one of the best defensive front sevens in Conference USA. Unfortunately, a parade of consistency questions overshadow most of that love and keep the Panthers buried in the national picture.
FIU, ranked 110th in the HERO Sports Preseason College Football Rankings (and ninth in Conference USA), weren't horrendous in any one area on either side of the ball last year, but they also weren't great in any area besides sack rate (first nationally), ranking in the middle or bottom third of the nation in several key areas, including yards per play (67th), third-down conversions (84th), yards per carry (61st), offensive-line line yards (110th), opponents' yards per play (74th), and defensive sack rate (97th).

The great news: FIU will be one win away from bowl eligibility by early November. The bad news: FIU won't gain bowl eligibility by late November, and after increasing their win total four times from 2014-18 will decrease their win total for the second straight season.
