2019 FCS Kickoff Countdown: 39 Days, The Best Player Who Wears No. 39 Is Harvard’s Jon Sot

Welcome to the 2019 FCS Kickoff Jersey Countdown.  

The regular season begins Saturday, Aug. 24 with Samford vs. Youngstown State in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff along with Villanova playing at Colgate.

HERO Sports is going to count down each day by highlighting the best player in the FCS who wears the jersey number equal to the number of days until kickoff. You can find the running list of top players here.

*Note: Jersey numbers are from the 2018 season.

39: Jon Sot, P (So.) — Harvard

Our second punter on this countdown in quick succession with FAMU's Chris Faddoul being named the best No. 43. As we stated in that article, the value of a team's punter should never be taken for granted.

As a freshman last year, Sot earned All-Ivy League First Team honors and was a Phil Steele Third Team All-American. He punted 51 times and pinned the ball inside the 20-yard line 19 times. His 41.1 yards per punt average was the second-best mark in Harvard history and his longest punt last year went 75 yards.

Punters don't get the love they deserve, but their impact on the game is huge, and defenses love an excellent punter. Harvard has a great one in Sot.
