A coin toss led Herschel Walker to college football, the former Georgia running back said at SEC Media Days.
Thirty-five years after Walker left Georgia as a three-time All-American, three-time SEC Player of the Year, and Heisman Trophy winner, he joined Steve Spurrier and Archie Manning on a legends panel on Tuesday on Hoover, Ala.
Here are Walker's best quotes from that panel:
"I flipped a coin to decide whether to go to the military or go to college, and it came up for me to go to college. And I go 'crap.'
"I flipped a coin between Clemson University and Georgia. Georgia ended up winning the coin toss. Then I said I'd love to go to USC . . . I flipped a coin between those two schools and Georgia won that too."
"My mom said, 'You know Bo.' My nickname was Bo, so Bo Jackson wanted to be me."
"If you're going to play in the SEC, you better bring more than your lunch. It's a tough league."
"I don't believe in the transfer portal that much. You gotta be a man of your word. If it was me, no one would be able to transfer. And I'd punish coaches who try to leave [before the end of their contract]. You signed that."
"I've always said name something after Herschel Walker before I die. I don't want to be dead and not be able to enjoy it. That's why I'm happy for coach Dooley having the field named after him."
"Growing up I didn't watch football. I watched NWA wrestling with Ric Flair.
