FCS Kickoff Countdown: 83 Days, the Best Player in FCS Who Wears No. 83

The countdown to the 2018 college football season is on. Four FCS teams are in action Aug. 25 as Duquesne takes on UMass, Prairie View faces Rice and North Carolina A&T and Jacksonville State square off in ESPN’s FCS Kickoff.

HERO Sports is going to count down each day by highlighting the best player in FCS football who wears the jersey number of the number of days to kickoff. You can find the running list of top players here.

83: Ian Berryman, P — Western Carolina

Another specialist makes the list. And this one is well-deserved as well. Berryman is one of the best punters in the country and has been honored as such. He's been voted on the All-Southern Conference First Team every season since his freshman year in 2015. Berryman has his name all over All-American lists in his three years of playing, including the 2016 HERO Sports FCS All-Sophomore Team and 2017 All-American Third Team.

Berryman's 44.45 yards per punt average ranked fifth in the FCS last year. Seventeen of his kicks went over 50 yards with a long of 62. Most importantly, he was able to pin the opponent deep by downing 26 punts inside the 20-yard line. Berryman's career average of 44.33 yards per punt is the top average in WCU history.
