Week 5 kicked off the second quarter of the NFL season and the teams are beginning to show their true colors. The Kansas City Chiefs won again to stay perfect on the season, but their win against the Houston Texans was not ideal as both teams lost at least at least one key player for the season through injury.
For the Chiefs it was wide receiver Chris Conley, who suffered a torn ACL after catching three passes for 46 yards.
The Texans got hit with a brutal one-two punch, losing star defensive linemen JJ Watt and Whitney Mercilus. Watt, the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, was just coming off another season lost to injury — he only played three games in 2015-16 after injuring his back. This time it was a tibial plateau fracture.
Mercilus tore his pectoral muscle right before Watt left the field with his injury — on the same series in fact. The two defensive linemen had been on the field for 88 and 84.1 percent of the Texans defensive snaps this season, respectively.
The top plays of the weekend are as exciting as ever and the skill level — especially at the wide receiver position — is just mind-boggling in the modern game.
