Elon and Furman will square off in the first round of the FCS Playoffs, and the matchup is one of only two first-round games that will feature teams who played each other already this season (Samford-Kennesaw State the other). Elon took down Furman 34-31 in the second game of the season, way back on September 9.
The Phoenix went 8-3 this season and took third place in the CAA behind James Madison and Stony Brook, with losses to JMU and New Hampshire in CAA play and an FBS loss to Toledo. Furman went 7-4 and finished third in the SoCon, trailing behind FCS Playoff teams Wofford and Samford and finishing a game ahead of Western Carolina, who it beat on the road.
