Gary Patterson Had the Best Reaction to Chris Del Conte Leaving for Texas

Gary Patterson and Chris Del Conte have a love-hate relationship — well at least for one day.

Patterson and Del Conte worked together for more than eight years, during which the pair — Patterson as head football coach and Del Conte as athletics director — led TCU's transition from the Mountain West to the Big 12, flirted with the College Football Playoff and made the athletic department one of the most stable and respected in the country.

On Saturday, Del Conte was announced as the new athletics director at Texas in a move loudly applauded across college sports. While Patterson was undoubtedly happy for his longtime friend and colleague, losing one of the best administrators in the country would hurt. And for that reason, Patterson hates Del Conte.

"I get a phone call today from Gary Patterson," Del Conte said on Monday. "He said, 'I love you but I hate you today.' "

TCU moved swiftly in named a new athletics director, promoting associate athletics director Jeremiah Donati to the role, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
