Fourteen four-star recruits have signed with Mountain West schools in the recruiting era. Fourteen. Total. Hank Bachmeier could be the 15th if his verbal pledge to Boise State becomes a signed pledge.
Bachmeier is a four-star 2019 quarterback from Murrietta Valley High School in Murietta, Calif. On Wednesday night, he picked Boise State over a slew of Power 5 programs, including Cal, Georgia and Minnesota. If the 6-foot-3, 188-pounder's commitment sticks, he'll be the Broncos' fifth-ever four-star signee and break program and conference recruiting records.
WATCH: Hank Bachmeier Highlights
Bachmeier's 247Sports Composite rating of 0.9263 falls short of 2014 signee Dylan Sumner-Gardner (0.9623) as the highest-rated recruit in program history, but he'd be the highest-rated and highest-ranked (No. 184 recruit and No. 8 pro-style quarterback) quarterback in program history, edging current Broncos' quarterback Brett Rypien. Rypien (0.9044) was a four-star signee and the 10th-ranked pro-style passer in 2015.
In the recruiting era, only one Mountain West quarterback signee has been rated higher, though Bachmeier is ranked higher as a pro-style quarterback. Justin Holland was a four-star prospect in 2001 when he picked Colorado State. The Denver native had a rating of 0.9631 and was the 121st-ranked recruit but was the 10th-ranked pro-style passer, two spots behind Bachmeier's No 8 spot.
“I went back and forth between Boise State and Cal every day for awhile,” Bachmeier told 247Sports. “The last few days, I felt things starting to build towards Boise State. It just felt right to me and I decided to go with my gut and I’m very excited to be a Bronco.”
We're still more than seven months away from the early signing period for 2019 recruits (and nine months from the February signing day), but as of now, Hank Bachmeier is slated to become the top-ranked quarterback signee in Boise State and Mountain West history.
