Chris Robinson, RB — Delta State
A whopping 24 combined touchdowns (19 rushing, 5 receiving) are what make Robinson a potential candidate, as he can attack from any position on the field and break open a big play. His rushing yardage (976) is low for a top-tier candidate, but that number should definitely rise by at least a few hundred with Robinson likely getting more touches this year. If he can break out for a big season, then this senior might be the favorite among all SR2 candidates.

Antwuan Haynes, RB — Florida Tech
The leading rusher in the GSC last year, Haynes recorded 1,076 yards on the ground with 10 touchdowns. Entering his junior year, Haynes should post career-high numbers for a FIT program looking to be a big player in 2017. With quarterback Mark Cato also returning, Haynes should find ample room to run against defenses looking to defend the pass.

Donta Armstrong, WR — West Alabama
Hauling in 91 passes in 2016, Armstrong was a focal point for the UWA offense, but he only totaled 904 yards. Where the senior makes a big case for the award is through the return game, where he nearly broke a couple returns for scores. If his reception total can remain the same and his kick returns become a little more impactful, Armstrong should easily increase his yardage and scoring ability and find his way onto voters' ballots.
