Have It Both Ways: How to Keep Fit as a Busy College Student

SPONSORED POST

Between dozens of academic assignments, exams, tests, and maintaining a quality social life, many college and university students feel like they have to choose between personal wellness and health. Even though many colleges provide students with the health care options and physical activities, keeping fit in an academic setting is a challenge for many. Here are a few simple and effective tips on how to stay healthy when you’re an extremely busy student.

1. Eat Breakfast: the Most Important Calories of the Day

According to a recent study published by the American Society of Nutrition Sciences, breakfast is the most important and filling meal you'll eat. Excess weight gain is more typical for individuals who tend to skip their morning meals.

Those who skip breakfast are more likely to overeat during the day. What's more, the blood sugar provided by a healthy breakfast is crucial for building the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is a must for memory and cognition.

2. Never Give up on Your Workout

It's not always easy to fit a 30-minute workout into a busy student’s schedule. But it can be done, especially if you can stay active during your daily routine. Have a bike? Great! Try biking to class to exercise between courses. If not, do not hesitate to walk to class. While it might take a little longer to get to college than driving or using public transport, walking to your destination is a great chance to burn some calories, get some air, and re-introduce yourself to the world around you.

Or, as a good alternative, you can play team sports to both have fun and get active!

3. Be Straight to Yourself about Alcohol

If you work hard during the week, watch what you eat, and stay active, you can still ruin it all on the weekend with five or six beers. An average light beer has 104 calories. It's okay to imbibe once in a while, but please, do so responsibly. The health effects of binge-drinking are well-documented.

A brilliant way to stay fit and healthy during your college years is to plan ahead. So next time you’re going to have a night out, be conscious of the impact it will have on your body. Have a glass of water between each alcoholic drink, and don't overdo it. Your body will thank you.

4. Do NOT Ward Off Professional Help

Be sure to take care of your brain as well as your body. Stand up and walk around for five minutes every hour, look away from all computer screens during that time as well. The human brain can get exhausted in the process of endless work, and once you get exhausted, mistakes happen.

Coping with the whole scope of papers and tasks is important for sure, but your body and brain require some rest. If you fail to provide them with one, don’t hesitate to search for help. Ready-to-help pals, tutors, and even custom academic writing services such as grademiners.com are some excellent sources of immediate help.

Being a college student is definitely about having the best years of your life. Make sure to use this quick guide to make the time spent in college both thrilling and healthy.
