Last December, Barry Odom signed a contract extension at Missouri, but it was not a Gus Malzahn extension that included an astronomical buyout.
Odom is a former Tigers' linebacker whose spent his entire college coaching career at his alma mater. He was hired by Gary Pinkel as a grad assistant in 2003, held several positions until 2012, when he was named defensive coordinator. In December 2015, following Pinkel's sudden resignation for health reasons, Odom was promoted to head coach and went 11-14 in his first two seasons.
Through six games in 2018, Missouri is 3-3, including 0-3 in the SEC, and must finish 3-3 to avoid their second sub-.500 mark in two years. While the school's leadership hasn't suggested Odom is on the hot seat, it's impossible to ignore the possibility given the program's fall from annual SEC East contender to annual low-level bowl contender.
Odom's annual salary of $2.35 million didn't change with his two-year extension, suggesting the deal might've been mostly symbolic. And his buyout remained small compared to other coaches. According to USA Today, if he's fired on Dec. 1, 2018, which would be eight days after the regular-season finale, his buyout is $1,912,500.
