Iowa led Minnesota, 28-17, and faced a 3rd-and-3 from their own 45-yard-line on the opening drive of the second half. Not only did receiver Brandon Smith deliver a conversion, he did so with the best catch of his young career.
Smith, a 6-foot-3, 219-pound sophomore from Mississippi, had four first-half catches and added a fifth on the first play of the second half. Moments later, Nate Stanley found him down the far sideline for a spectacular 26-yard reception that moved the chains and drew a flag.
