Before Lamar Jackson was demolishing box scores and winning the Heisman Trophy at Louisville, he was toying with defenses in South Florida.
In two years as starting quarterback at Boynton Beach Community High School, Jackson racked up 3,887 total yards and 53 touchdowns. He was a three-star prospect (247ports) in the class of 2015 who committed to Louisville at the beginning of his senior season, picking the Cardinals over Clemson, Florida and others.
“You’ll see; he’s just a tremendous quarterback,” Boynton Beach coach Rick Swain said. “I’ve been coaching 41 years, and I’ve never had one anywhere close to him. …He’s always had a tremendous arm. He can sit there and throw the ball 65 yards with no problem at all."
He also over, through and around defenders. Or just jumped over them, which Jackson reminded us of on Thursday night. The reigning Heisman winner tweeted a highlight from his Boynton Beach days that shows him effortlessly clearing a defensive back.
