Before he was a national figure for activities having nothing to do with football, and before he became the first professional running back to eclipse 2,000 yards, O.J. Simpson was shredding college defenses in 1968 to the tune of 1,880 yards and 23 touchdowns.
His next closest competitor, Leroy Keyes of Purdue, received just 49 first place votes compared to Simpson's 855. The fact that O.J. outgained him on the ground by over 800 yards probably had a little something to do with the lopsided voting.
