In a head-scratching move for most Buffalo and NFL fans, the Bills have benched starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor in favor of Pittsburgh Panthers rookie Nathan Peterman.
It's a curious move considering the Bills are in the thick of the AFC Wild Card chase at 5-4 until a closer look at the stats reveals that Taylor is #25 in the league in passing yards per game at just 187 and #26 in yards per attempt at a paltry 6.63. These numbers have him in a crowded group of underperforming QBs like Trevor Siemian and Jay Cutler.

Peterman and the Bills travel to Los Angeles this weekend to take on the 3-6 Chargers who are currently ranked #19 overall in total defense with 344 yards given up per contest. With AFC division leaders Kansas City and New England up next the following two weeks, Peterman had better work the kinks out quick.
With Miami's loss on Monday night to Carolina, the Bills are still locked into the sixth and final wild card spot, but this three-game stretch will be the squad's 2017 sink or swim moment.
