Here’s What the Browns Have to Trade to Acquire Top-5 Pick for Mitchell Trubisky

If the Cleveland Browns do not select Mitchell Trubisky with the first-overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, there is no guarantee they get the former North Carolina quarterback.

There is no guarantee he's still available at No. 12, their next pick. With multiple quarterback-needy teams holding the 10 picks in between, the Browns only have one choice to ensure they acquire both Myles Garrett and Trubisky: Trade up.

Though they can only 100-percent ensure a Garrett-Trubisky introductory press conference if they acquire the second-overall pick from the San Francisco 49ers, they still greatly increase their odds by acquiring the third, fourth or fifth pick. With 11 picks in both the 2017 and 2018 drafts, they have the firepower to do it.

Here are all 22 picks, along with their point value from the trade value chart created by former Dallas Cowboys' head coach Jimmy Johnson. (2018 values were estimated using 2017 slots.)

Year Round & Pick (if available) Value Notes
2017 1st Round (No. 1) 3,000
2017 1st Round (No. 12) 1,200 Acquired from Eagles
2017 2nd Round (No. 33) 580
2017 2nd Round (No. 52) 380 Acquired from Titans
2017 3rd Round (No. 65) 265
2017 4th Round (No. 108) 78
2017 5th Round (No. 145) 33
2017 5th Round (No. 175) 21 Acquired from Patriots
2017 5th Round (No. 181) 18.6 Compensatory pick
2017 6th Round (No. 185) 17
2017 6th Round (No. 188) 15.8 Acquired from Texans
2018 1st Round 3,000
2018 2nd Round 580
2018 2nd Round 470 Acquired from Eagles
2018 2nd Round 330 Acquired from Texans
2018 3rd Round 265
2018 4th Round 78
2018 4th Round 64 Acquired from Panthers
2018 5th Round 33
2018 6th Round 17
2018 6th Round 5.8 Acquired from Steelers
2018 7th Round 3.4

If the Browns wished to acquire either the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 or No. 5 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft from the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars or Tennessee Titans, respectively, they could offer a multi-pick package that passes trade value muster.

Because it's possible the Browns will hold the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL draft, it's unlikely they will deal their first-round pick next year. However, they are still able to offer packages that reaches the point value of the one pick between 2-5.
