Fifteen years ago, Week 2 of the NFL season was cancelled as the United States picked up the pieces from the September 11th attacks.

On Sept. 11, 2016, the first Sunday of the NFL season, the league honored the victims and heroes from that catastrophic day 15 years ago.
Included in the pregame and in-game tributes across the 13 stadiums that hosted NFL games on Sunday were subtle equipment alterations, most notably the use of patriotic cleats by a few players.
