The Thursday night Big XII matchup this week looked like an extreme mismatch on paper. The college football contest featured the #14 ranked Oklahoma Sooners (6-2) traveling to Ames to take on to lowly Iowa State Cyclones (1-7).
The Cyclones and the Kansas Jayhawks have been propping up the conference for years, but maybe, just maybe, on a warm November night in Ames, they could shock a Sooners team that has been working to fight back into the big time bowl contention after a slow start to the season.

Well, as you can see from these college football highlights, it did not happen exactly like that. Behind a big day from quarterback Baker Mayfield, the Sooners downed the Cyclones for the 18th time in a row to stay on the fringes of the College Football Playoff conversation and continue their clear path to the Big 12 title.
Mayfield will get most of the plaudits for his 25-of-34 for 328 yards and four touchdowns performance, but it is the play of wide receiver Dede Westbrook that has propelled Oklahoma back into the thick of things this season. Westbrook entered the game averaging 210.4 all-purpose yards per game and by half time he was already at 183 yards for the contest (on just four touches!).
His highlight, and perhaps the highlight of the game, was his effortless, and casual, stiff arm on the back end of his 65-yard touchdown reception. Check out that college football highlight in the video above. Westbrook finished the game with 233 yards in all phases.
Also of note was that Oklahoma won this game comfortably without either of their best running backs. Samaje Perine was out injured, while Joe Mixon was suspended after an encounter with an OU parking attendant of all things. Their status will be interesting to watch going forwards.
Mayfield and Oklahoma now get to sit back with the rest of the country on Saturday and check out all the big games of the weekend knowing that their Week 10 work is done.
