PODCAST: We Talk to Seattle Seahawk Lorenzo Jerome
HERO Sports FCS Coordinator Brian McLaughlin talks to Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker and special teams gem Donald Payne, a former Stetson standout in the FCS, the morning after he had tackles for no gain against former Heisman winner Mark Ingram and his New Orleans Saints teammate Shane Vereen.
Payne was a HERO Sports FCS All American out of Stetson in the Pioneer League after the 2016 season. Payne is the first Stetson player to ever step on the field in the NFL regular season, even though there were Stetson players drafted back during its first stint with football that lasted until the 1950s. Payne talks about meeting players from the first Stetson era, and what it was like being a part of the program's restart in 2012 — when it played no games.
Last year Payne was tied with three other players for third in the NFL with 16 special teams tackles. He had four total tackles last night, all on defense. He played nearly 60 total snaps in the postseason, including the AFC Championship against the New England Patriots.
