Casey Clinger likely could've used his speed to outrun the cops on Thursday morning. It would've made for must-see TV, but the police prank that ensued was fantastic.
Clinger, a senior at American Fork High School in Utah, captured his second straight national title at the Nike Cross National Finals last season. For the BYU commit, it was icing on the cake after winning multiple individual and team state titles, the NXN Southwest Regional championship and Viking Invitational, among many others. Those were among the 15 straight titles Clinger closed his prep career with.
Though all of those victories brought excitement, none of them likely got his heart pumping like it did on Thursday. That's when he was pulled over by an American Fork police officer. But instead of giving him a ticket for nothing, the officer surprised the prep star with the Gatorade National Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year Award.
