SEC Recruiting: Who Won the Week? June 5-11

If you're a fan of SEC football, there's a good chance you're a follower of SEC recruiting … and in recruiting, the news never sleeps. It is a 365-day a year battle for supremacy, with key battles won and lost as early as May, as much as they are in February and during fall visits.

Today, we look at the past week — Monday, June 5 through Sunday night, June 11. With summer camps and combines, as well as on-campus unofficial visits, things can get busy in SEC recruiting.

This week alone we saw class of 2018, 2019 and even 2020 prospects commit to SEC schools.

HERO Sports will give you an idea of who won the past week each Monday.

WHICH SEC TEAM WON THE WEEK?

TEXAS A&M

texas-am-logoTHE SKINNY: The Aggies added three players to their recruiting class(es). That's right, two of the pickups came for the class of 2019 when St. Pius X in Houston delivered. Quarterback Grant Gunnell and his trusty and speedy wide receiver Chase Lane both came board last week, and when you throw in three-star running back Deneric Prince you can see that the Aggies just bolstered their offense going into the next decade of play. Can you imagine this trio lining up together in the 2020 season, scoring a slew of points? It could happen, and it all started last week.

WHO IS NEXT?: Probably LSU with its three pickups, though a case for Florida could be made.

WHO LANDED THE TOP PROSPECT?

texas-am-logoTHE WINNER: Texas A&M with Grant Gunnell, QB, 2019 class
THE SKINNY: Big surprise eh? Gunnell, the No. 2 rated dual-threat quarterback for the class of 2019 is the gem of the week. Get these 2016 statistics for Gunnell — as a sophomore: 4,973 yards passing and 65 touchdowns for St. Pius X. Oh, and he's 6-foot-6, 210 pounds. Goodness gracious. Alabama's pickup of four-star LB Quay Walker was another good one.
